Five Wonderful Months

I can hardly believe another month has flown by. It started off shaky, was pretty wonderful in the middle, and ended with our fair share of adversity. Last Saturday Maddie was diagnosed with bronchiolitis/RSV, and I tell ya, forcing those nebulizer treatments on her while she screams the entire 20 minutes and uses those beautiful teary eyes to beg you to stop and then trembles afterwards (lovely side effects)..... I don't even know what to say here except that we're glad she's starting to get better. Here's hoping the next month goes by without anything to report except for blessings and happiness.

So each time I start marveling at how Maddie is growing so quickly, then my mind turns to Andrew and how fast he's growing up as well. We're past the stage of being able to spell words he shouldn't be hearing.... he just sounds it out and then that's the end of that game. Pig latin.... doesn't fool him for a moment. He's just so mature for his age that it's hard for us to remember that he's still just five years old. I love the picture above because it captures so much of who he is right now. He was wanting to make Maddie laugh so he took her bumbo seat and wore it on his head and laughed until all of us were laughing. Today he went around circling his birthday on all the calendars in our house, although it's still five months away. A few days ago I got an email from Alaska Airlines advertising their 1-way tickets from Portland to Maui for $149 each, and I mentioned it to Travis for a laugh because we always joke about going there on vacation someday (maybe for our 20th anniversary or something). Anyways, Andrew heard me and then yesterday he came up and asked if we could PLEASE go to Maui so he can ride down the rivers in those cool canoes and especially go see the volcanoes. It just blew me away that he knew where Maui was and what was there that he'd like to see. Such a cool kid!

Maddie is growing quickly. We've been working on teaching her to roll from her tummy to her back and she's getting better at it every day, but she has NO desire to roll from her back to her tummy. She still hates being on her tummy. One thing she does love is standing up and the new view of things she has from that height. The fun thing she discovered this week is her legs. She loves raising them as high in the air as possible and then grabbing them and holding on, practically rolling over backwards and then cooing as loud as possible. So stinkin' cute!!!
